Film Transcript
Before my accident I played TC Cup football with D Thomas and SC Penbury. As a result of my accident I am now quadriplegic and have limited use of my arms.
After rehab I wanted to continue on getting stronger and the gym was the best place to do that. I come to the gym three times a week; I do boxing, weights and a wheelchair fitness class.
It was a little daunting taking on someone in a wheelchair in a boxing class, but after talking to Bo he was really proactive in explaining what he could and couldn't do, and so that made my life much easier.
To include Bo in the class we made some really simple changes, for instance using the word move instead of run, doing push-ups in his chair as opposed to the ground, and doing plate extensions instead of lunges.
Having Bo in the gym has created awareness for both staff and members and it's just really inspiring to have him around. For the first six weeks after my accident I couldn't even raise my arm to reach my nose. Now I'm going to the gym, boxing; I'm feeling really good and looking at all the other opportunities I'm going to be able to do.
