About this Short Film
I Do Believe (2021) by Lester Banda is a Malawian short included in the Focus on Ability festival for its thoughtful approach to themes around disability and work. The film resonates with adults and highlights subjects suggested by its tags: business and employment issues, medical and physical disability, and group dynamics. While we do not assume a specific storyline, the piece offers a human, grounded look at the challenges and strengths people bring to professional and communal life. Presented in a programme that celebrates ability, this film invites audiences to consider how inclusion and opportunity shape everyday experiences. It is quietly observant and respectfully framed.

Film Transcript
I'm a man born with a disability. I don't have legs but my arms are able to eat the benefit of my suede. That's why I don't sleep all day. By knowing that I was created to achieve something in life, I do believe that I was born to win and to achieve something in life. That's why I'm able to work in the field and at the end of the day I'm paid. I'm disappointed when I see people with both arms and legs saying that I have nothing to do in life. If you have nothing to do in life, think of someone without arms, without legs, but at the same time able to feed themselves and others. Think twice.
