Breaking Barriers (Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, Kenya, 2023) explores themes of achievement, inclusion and filmmaking in the context of congenital and medical disability. This short film highlights the skills and ambitions of young adults and students, offering a clear-eyed and hopeful view of what is possible when talent and opportunity meet. Presented in the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival, it contributes to a wider conversation about accessibility and representation in creative fields. Practical, warm and respectful in tone, Breaking Barriers is a welcome addition to a programme that celebrates the abilities and achievements of people with disability.

A truly remarkable story that prodes humanity to tap into the magic a mind with a positive attitude can surmount. Dorcas' case is a powerful life lesson that redefines abled differently as the ability to refocus the mind to break the barriers of limitation life presents.

Breaking barriers is a story about Dorcas who is a student at Kenya Institute of Mass Communication. She was born with a Congential Disorder on her right hand. Though abled differently Dorcas has a good attitude towards life and shows the society that she is able to perform beyond this challenge proving that disability is not inability. Despite her condition she enrolled for a diploma course in filmvideo programmes production Directing Option- a course that requires mastery of the Art and Techniques in Filmmaking.
