Keep Going (2023), film still

Keep Going

About this Short Film

Keep Going, directed by Suzanne Dang, is a 2023 Australian short that explores the experiences of adults living with bipolar, focusing on perception, medication and the individual point of view. Through intimate moments and thoughtful pacing the film offers a humane look at mental health without simplifying the complexity of mental illness. It asks viewers to notice how treatment, mood and personal outlook can shape everyday life, and it invites quiet reflection rather than tidy answers. Presented as part of the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival, Keep Going sits alongside other works that highlight ability, resilience and the varied experiences of people with disability.

Film Transcript

For those who have been indirectly or directly affected by mental illnesses, I have two words of advice for you. Keep going. I was raped and I tried to put a DVO against my ex-partner but I kept going. I was excluded from nursing due to continuous academic failures but I kept going. I couldn't drive for three to four years due to my driving accidents but I kept going. I tried many medications in my lifetime that made me feel like a vegetable I kept going. My mental illness is my superpower. I'm able to confidently, honestly and openly share about my experiences about overcoming bipolar disorder type 1.
