Meet The LA Stars, a short film by The Y Inclusion Services (Australia, 2023), offers a warm and clear look at perspectives around cognitive processing and intellectual disability. Rather than a single narrative, the film focuses on group dynamics and personal viewpoint, inviting viewers to reconsider how they perceive ability and difference. It brings adult voices to the fore and pays attention to how people experience the world in different ways. Presented as part of the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival, this piece complements the programme by highlighting diverse experiences and encouraging open, respectful conversation.
Hi, my name is Laura. My name is Daniel Bonello. Hi, my name is Jihad. Hi, my name is Caroline Lynette Nicole Freeling. I like playing games on my phone and I like watching movies and making stories about Captain America and I like bowling. My favourite things are going on my phone, talking to my friends, watching Carlton and Melbourne Victory games. My favourite things are playing video games, watching movies and listening to music. My favourite things to do is TikTok, Facebook, bowling, hanging out with my cat and being with my friends. Oh stop it you knucklehead. One. YMCA! Everyone says I am funny, energetic and friendly. People say I'm nice, funny and just a lazy old stupid idiot. People say I am friendly, strong and confident. What up bro, this is Will Jetley here or you can call me Jihad Khurrami if you want or you can call me Prime Minister. People say I am sarcastic and funny. I feel my best when I'm around people who actually care for me, such as my support team. I think more people should join L.A. Stars because they are talented and brilliant. L.A. Stars has helped me doing projects, heaps and heaps of them. I feel my best when I learn something new. I think more people should join L.A. Stars because we are the best group ever. I think more people should join L.A. Stars because it's a great way to connect with other people and make new friends. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
