About Me (2022), film still

About this Short Film

"About Me" (St John Vianney's Primary School, Australia, 2022) is a short film that examines perception and viewpoint around disability. Created by a primary school community, it touches on cerebral palsy, wheelchair use, congenital and intellectual disabilities and the everyday experiences of children and teenagers. The film highlights practical skills, individuality and the ways young people are seen within school and social settings. Rather than offering answers, it invites viewers to consider how perception shapes inclusion and ability. A warm, respectful contribution to the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival, it celebrates the voices and achievements of people with disability.

Film Transcript

Hi, my name is Lucky. I am 10 years old and this video is about me. This is my mum, my dad, my little brother Will and me. We all love the Queensland Maroons and the Cowboys. This is my mate Coco. Together we play fetch. I feed her dog food. One by one we do tricks like sit, roll over, shake, catch the treat. She digs holes in the backyard but Dad hates it. I love the Queensland Maroons, Boo Blues. Dad and I watch till late at night. Our house gets loud. I was so excited when Queensland won 16-10. I reckon it could go either way in Perth but in Brisbane, Queensland will smash them. Come on Queensland, come on Queensland, come on Queensland. Go Queensland, go Queensland, go Queensland, go Queensland, go Queensland, go Queensland. Yes! I can play footy too. Watch me score a try. Wahoo! I've got a best mate called Corey. We hang out on the weekend and watch footy or play Roblox. Corey can be a bit of a handful sometimes. I just have to put him back in his box. I do drumming at school. My teacher's name is Gillian. I'm really good at drumming. I drum like thunder. My favourite thing to do is definitely not school work. It's playing video games. Who wouldn't want to do that? My favourite games are wrestling, rugby league and Spider-Man. Spider-Man, Spider-Man does whatever a spider can. Lock and roll, lock and roll, does whatever he can control. And my most favourite thing of all video games is wrestling. I love when people beat each other up. I watch wrestling every single day. Bron Strymon is one of my favourite wrestlers because he's so strong like me. I recently went on school camp. While it was really challenging, I gave everything a go. I worked as a team with my friends and teachers. I went on the dance swing. It was so scary, I nearly passed out. I overcame my fears and won the swing. My friends cheered and cheered. I can do everything my friends can do. Thank you!

Lachie I loved your courage when you went on that giant swing. I don't think I would be able to do that. P.S booo to the Maroons But they did play really well in the last game and deserved to win.
