I am the very proud Principal of this school - Galilee School.This film has been an amazing journey for our school. The Film Project was 10 weeks work. It covered a number of subject areas - EnglishArtMedia Arts. Many of the General Capabilities from the Australian Curriculum were also covered including Critical and Creative Thinking and Personal and Social Capability. It was a project about film creation but developed into a community building activity. Staff and students grew through the project. It was fun learning. Many outcomes were achieved. Students were responsible for all aspects of the film script writing story boarding makeup filming editing and production. It was an amazing team effort.Goals were set and achieved. New skills were learned and others revealed. Media Arts was included in the young people's Reports to families and carers. The outcomes and progress achieved by students was significant with many young people being stretched to places well outside their comfort zone. Many leadership opportunities were taken on by students. Young people developed key skills in teamwork. It gave students an opportunity to express themselves in front of and behind the camera. It gave students an opportunity to play and to learn. Students who felt little confidence in front of any group or camera stepped out of their feelings of low self-esteem and anxiety to perform. It was rich learning. We felt and performed as a school. It was about community. The film was shown at the end of Year Whole School Graduation event at our Kambah Campus. It had deep learning and strong engagement. Students and staff felt pride in their efforts. It is a record of a group of students that can be passed on as a model and legacy. It was a first time project for the school. The school grew in many ways because of it. The film has been entered into this short film competition - Focus on Ability.
