About this Short Film
Side by Side (Auckland Grammar School, New Zealand, 2021) is presented in the Focus on Ability festival for its thoughtful treatment of disability themes. The film looks at autism, cognitive processing disability, intellectual and physical disability, bullying and inclusion, and touches on school, employment and the skills young people need as they grow. We include it as an example of student-led work that asks audiences to consider how groups and communities can support diversity. The film does not rely on spectacle. Instead it uses quiet moments to invite reflection and conversation about belonging, accessibility and the everyday challenges faced by teenagers and their peers.
