When I got that email, I danced. I had applied for hundreds of jobs, but somehow when I show up, it's like I stop being qualified. I become my skin. I had done the online assessments and passed all of them. They said I was just what they needed. I was just waiting in the room. When a man came out, he looked at me like I didn't belong there. He asked if he could help me. In that moment I felt lost. I stood up and greeted him. I told him that I was there for the interview. He paused and stared, as if he hadn't expected someone like me to be there. He told me to wait and quickly walked back inside. I don't know what he said to the others or who they even were. But when someone came out later, probably their boss, he told me to go home and just wait for a response. They said they would contact me, but I never heard from them again.

It wasn't the first time I've seen it in their eyes when they realised that I have albinism. It's like my degree fades away. Sometimes I ask myself, what else do I have to prove? I'm not asking for pity. I just want to walk. I do want to serve, and I want to be seen. I know there are many people out there who look like me. I'm not just talking about people with albinism, but everyone who looks different, who are judged before they even speak or prove what they can do. I still hope that maybe one day someone will see me — not just my skin, but my skills. And I believe that I will walk through the door that doesn't close just because someone like me is behind it.
