Focus on Ability 2025 on SBS: Showcasing Global Talent and Inclusion

The Focus on Ability Short Film Festival reached an exciting new audience in 2025 with our national broadcast on SBS, celebrating an extraordinary collection of films from around the world.

This special program brought together powerful stories from filmmakers of all ages and backgrounds—each one offering a unique perspective on ability, resilience, and inclusion. From deeply personal documentaries to creative and thought-provoking short films, the showcase highlighted the incredible talent emerging not only across Australia, but internationally.

What makes these films so impactful is their authenticity. They challenge assumptions, spark important conversations, and shine a light on the lived experiences of people with disability—always with a focus on strengths, achievements, and possibilities.

Importantly, the SBS broadcast was designed to be accessible for all audiences, with audio description and closed captions available, ensuring more people could engage with and enjoy the films.

This national platform allowed these stories to reach households across the country, amplifying voices that deserve to be seen and heard, and reinforcing the festival’s mission to create a more inclusive society through storytelling.
