Does it have a focus on the ability of people with disability?

Do you have an interest in shooting video?

If you answer ‘yes’ to all of the above, you need to get moving! Because the tenth annual Focus On Ability Short Film competition closes on 1 June. You have 17 days to send your entry to [email protected] Fill out the entry form here.

Ten years ago, Focus On Ability (FOA) started as NOVA Employment CEO Martin Wren’s ‘good idea’ to promote inclusion of people with disability and has grown into an international sensation. In 2017, we received a total of 210 entries from 19 different countries. Nearly half the entries came from young people – 101 entries from schools, mostly from Australia and New Zealand.

Many careers have been launched from writers, directors, actors and producers participating in and/or winning this very accessible short film competition. With $150,000 in cash and prizes on offer this year, there’s also a significant boost to winning filmmakers’ budgets.

Yet FOA always stays true to its roots, as Martin Wren reminds us. “We’re all about inclusion. That’s why FOA is free to enter and free to attend.” Every September, the gala awards night is an inspiring, emotional and accessible night out on the town with food and drink, music and stories, tears and laughter. “It’s a great night out,” Martin says.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves!

Entries are pouring in for 2018. Why not have a go? Shoot it on your phone or engage an entire crew. FOA18 is open to everyone.
